David Drake Obituary, Death – On August 12, 2023, David Drake, who was 83 years old and lived in Presque Isle, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly. His adoptive parents, Richard and Virginia Drake, welcomed him into the world on September 2, 1939, in the city of Chicago, Illinois.
In the year when he was two years old, his family relocated to Highland Park, Illinois. His sister Carol, who passed away four years later, was born after him.
David received his degree in Agriculture from Iowa State University, where he finished his studies. For the four years that he was a student at Iowa State, he competed on the varsity swimming team. In 1960, he wed Missy, the girl he had a crush on in high school, and the couple eventually relocated to Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Following yet another relocation to Omaha, Nebraska, the couple ultimately made their home in Lake Forest, Illinois. Sherry (John) Murrens, Wendy (Brent) Aufdembrink, and David Tipton Drake were their three children.
They also had seven grandchildren: Eric (Jenny) Aufdembrink, Ethan (Lucia) Aufdembrink, Lauren (Alex) Mundstock, Maggie Murrens, Max Miller, Peter Murrens, and Rachel (Jake) Stark. Additionally, they had two great grandchildren: Quinn Aufdembrink and Maddox Aufdembrink. He achieved a tremendous deal of success and enjoyment throughout his career in advertising, which he pursued with both Leo Burnett and DDBNeedham. In the Presbyterian Church in Highland Park, Illinois, he first served as a deacon and later became an elder. He was very active in the church.
After retiring to the Northwoods of Wisconsin, he discovered that he found everyday pleasure in activities such as x-country skiing, riding, and strolling the trails. He became a member of the Northwoods Ski Touring Association (NSTA) and spent a great deal of time there, taking pleasure in the company of his fellow members’ companionship. His fixation on becoming a handyman kept him extremely busy, especially when it came to chopping wood, maintaining the land, and repairing anything that was damaged.
As a result of his and Missy’s passion for travelling with their friends, they travelled not only across the United States but also to a great number of places around the world. Over the past few years, they have taken pleasure in having family dinners on Sunday evenings with his in-laws, Jim and Sue Fragassi.
What brought him the most joy were his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the pets that they had. His favourite thing to do was to watch them all take pleasure in the numerous riches and joys that the Northwoods had to offer. In addition to his own dogs, he cherished every dog that his children and grandchildren had. It was always a pleasure to have them at his home and in his heart.
