Is Bar Refaeli pulling a Single White Female on Gisele Bundchen?

Today seems like a Single White Female day. I was reminded of it on that Angelina/Megan Fox post, and I’m reminded of it again with this story. That movie is so campy, yet genuinely scary, and so iconic. I love it! Must. Reference. Anyway, this story is about how Bar Refaeli is the Megan Fox to Gisele Bundchen’s Angelina Jolie. Bar is the Budget Gisele. Bar is the one you get when Gisele can’t be bothered. Which is what the fashion line Rampage did. Gisele has been representing Rampage in their print ads and web content since 2006. It is unknown whether Gisele was fired, or she simply decided to cut back on her modeling now that she’s pregnant. In any case, Bar Refaeli was chosen as the new face of Rampage.

I looked at some of Gisele’s old Rampage ads and Bar’s new ones, and I have to say that if you’re not looking too hard, you can’t really tell the difference between them. Bar and Gisele have similar coloring, the same hair length, same kind of basic facial structure, and they pose in very similar ways. Or should I say, Bar copies Gisele’s poses. And everything else about Gisele!

Whatever Bar has done, Gisele has done it first. From dating Leonardo DiCaprio, breaking up with Leonardo because of commitment issues, becoming a Victoria Secret model, and the long, tousled, blond-streaked honey-colored hair style, all of it Gisele did first. A Socialite’s Life even pointed out that Gisele walked away from Victoria’s Secret because Vicky’s wouldn’t honor Gisele’s requests to never be put in the same place as her Single White Female-esque stalker. Of course, those bingo-winged misogynists over at the Daily Mail are spinning the whole thing like Bar is the new and improved Gisele:

After a difficult break-up it’s always hard when your boyfriend replaces you with a younger, blonder version. But spare a thought for Gisele Bundchen, 29, who can’t seem to get away from Bar Refaeli.

After replacing Gisele in the affections of Leonardo DiCaprio, then stepping on her shoes at Victoria’s Secret, Bar has now unveiled her new advertising campaign for Rampage – previously fronted by the Brazilian beauty.

In the new photos 24-year-old Bar shows off her toned stomach and sultry gaze as she swings from the bed posts, lounges on the stairs and gives the camera the eye.

The Israeli was lauded as the ‘New Gisele’ when she arrived on the modeling scene, and began dating Hollywood actor Leonardo in 2005, shortly after his break-up from Brazilian Gisele.

When Victoria’s Secret recruited Bar as one of their ‘Angels’ in 2007, Gisele promptly stepped down, after five years. According to the Brazilian media at the time, among Gisele’s long list of dealbreaking requests in contract talks were that she never be on the runway at the same time as Bar.

Now Bar has replaced her as the face as Rampage, saying: ‘The Rampage line is comfortable and the cuts are very feminine. It always fits perfectly to the curves of a woman’s body – I have curves and I feel really good in it!’

Dari Marder, Chief Marketing Officer, Rampage, said they were looking for someone ‘fresh and new’ to replace Gisele, who starred in this year’s Spring/Summer campaign.

‘We were looking for a fresh new face to follow our spring campaign with Gisele Bundchen and when we met Bar we instantly fell in love with her,’ he said. ‘Bar is sweet, young, sexy and beautiful just like our Rampage customer.’

However, Gisele is unlikely to be too upset about losing out to Bar. She is currently expecting her first child with husband Tom Brady, with the baby thought to be due in February next year.

Meanwhile Bar and Leonardo split last month, with a source telling U.S. magazine People: ‘She wanted to move faster than he did, she wanted to move in together, so he broke it off.’

I realize the Rampage spokesperson just wants to talk up their new model, but doesn’t it seem like the comments are kind of pointed? Like, “Oh, Bar is so nice and sweet… unlike Gisele, who was so horrible.” I don’t know, maybe it was just the way I was reading it. I just found it to be yet another weird, random, rude sideswipe at Gisele, like that thing with her low-selling “losing her looks” Vanity Fair cover. Anyway, I hope Gisele doesn’t care. Unless she’s worried Bar is going to kill Tom Brady with a stiletto to the forehead! No, no! Next up for Bar is doing something mean to Bridget Moynahan, meeting and marrying a football player, and getting pregnant.
